eUSRacing: Young talent in the electric motorcycle ‘pole position’

At eUSRacing, we embrace a real engineering and management challenge: designing, building, and optimising a 100% electric motorcycle for MotoStudent. Every step, from the first CAD (Computer-Aided Design) sketch to on-track testing at MotorLand Aragón, fuels our professional growth, drives innovation in electric mobility, and showcases the power of young talent.

By Camelia Elena Apostol

We are eUSRacing, the official motorcycle racing team of the University of Seville, made up exclusively of engineering, communications, and management students. For two years, we commit to designing and building a high-performance electric motorcycle for MotoStudent. Each member takes on real responsibilities, from chassis design to telemetry, as well as budget management and sponsor relations. This holistic approach pushes us to master every technical detail while developing cross-functional skills essential for our professional careers.

Our story began in 2009 when a group of students passionate about motorsports and innovation built the team’s first combustion motorcycle. Over the last decade, we’ve grown in both size and ambition. In 2019, we unveiled our first electric prototype, marking the beginning of our permanent commitment to sustainability and zero-emission mobility.

How do we create our electric racing bike for MotoStudent?

MotoStudent provides us with the prototype specifications and a base kit —including tires, brake callipers, and motor— ensuring all teams start on equal ground. We began this journey two years ago, building on our initial base. With the support of sponsors, technical expertise, and materials, we’ve refined every component to design the electric prototype that we’ll soon bring to MotorLand Aragón.

In the early phase of the competition, we’re evaluated on our ability to deliver a solid business model, a detailed CAD design, and a production plan that could bring the prototype to market. The initial months are spent refining ideas, conducting structural calculations, and performing stress simulations for every component.

Our workshop is split into two technical departments: electronics and dynamics:

  • lectronics: responsible for battery assembly, high-voltage wiring, and BMS (Battery Management System) control units, ensuring safe and stable energy delivery.
  • Dynamics: focuses on the design and manufacturing of structural and aerodynamic parts, calibrating suspensions and brakes, and running bench rig tests before track testing.

Securing sponsorships and promoting the project are as crucial as the technical work. We create corporate presentations, manage social media, and maintain constant communication with industry partners. These efforts not only provide the resources we need but also enhance our visibility and build professional networks that complement our academic training.

The eighth edition of MotoStudent will take place in October 2025. There, we’ll test our prototype in the MotorLand paddock, competing head-to-head with other teams and pushing our bike to its limits.

The key to achieving top-level sustainable mobility lies in supporting young talent

This project is far more than an academic challenge —it’s a stepping stone for our careers. We’ve learned to handle tight budgets, draft technical documentation, and effectively communicate our findings to diverse audiences. Every technical and organisational challenge equips us to tackle real-world issues in the electric mobility industry.

For this edition, some of our standout contributions include: developing an in-house control unit to synchronise all motorcycle systems, designing a charger capable of fully recharging the battery in under 90 minutes without external equipment, and optimising the geometry of the rear chassis, using precision-machined aluminium to achieve both lightness and rigidity.

At eUSRacing, we prove that young talent, backed by a collaborative ecosystem and committed sponsors, can deliver cutting-edge solutions in sustainable mobility. Our mission for this edition is clear: to keep innovating, perfect every detail, and reach the MotoStudent podium —showing once again that with passion and teamwork, there are no limits.
